We Are Sound is a large scale musical collective based in Cambridge (and sometimes London) that blurs the line between choirs & bands.

Our obsession is to rework brilliant tracks by brilliant bands - both established and new talent - using around 130 vocalists / instrumentalists.  Set lists range from Scandinavian soundscapes and soaring club anthems through to funk, indie anthems, Canadian introspection and electro-dub mixes, all explored at scale - it's epic, intense and euphoric.

We’re recruiting new singers & instrumentatlists, starting in September 2024. If you want to get involved, take a look here.

How do we differ to what else is out there? We’re definitely more irreverent & individual - if you’re looking for a majority female choir that wears matching t-shirts and/or does dance moves, we’re probably not the one for you. But if you are music-loving, happy to be pushed out of your comfort zone, and perhaps chasing a little bit of adrenaline, then there’s a big chance that we’ll fit each other nicely.

Some other info that tells you a bit about us:

Our aim is always to be artistically sound (even though our singers are not professional singers, they’re encouraged, cajoled, teased, and sometimes pushed, to sing way beyond the level that they thought they could), commercially sound (we fund ourselves), and ethically sound. This last part is intrinsic to how we work. In 2013 we set up The Dosoco Foundation, and when we make profits at our gigs put a chunk of that into the foundation, run by a small team of volunteers, which gives 100% of that money and other donations out to support projects & people using music for social good. The model is circular. We make brilliant music & have enormous amounts of fun, and at the same time we help people. What’s not to love.

We've also had some fantastic collaborations over the years, including with Basement Jaxx, Fyfe Dangerfield (Guillemots), Dirty Freud, Boo Hewerdine & Megson.

None of this would be possible without incredible support from some world-class sponsors.  Have a look here to find out who.

We were founded by arts entrepreneur Andrea Cockerton, an award-winning arts entrepreneur (Observer & NESTA 2018 #50newradical & 2020 SheSaidSo Alternative Power 100 Music List) and professional composer, arranger, pianist & performer.

We are lucky enough to have some brilliant businesses supporting us, all behind what we do and how we do it. If you'd like to promote your business through supporting the arts and the community then we'd love to talk. Just drop us a line and we'll send our sponsor pack through pronto.

In the field of sound design, Bobby Aitken is legendary.  With projects including sound design for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympics, large scale arena opera productions, numerous West End musicals (Ghost, Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You), and the Sochi Winter Olympics, Bobby advises and directs our sound as we take on increasingly diverse acoustic challenges.

We're delighted to also have Autograph Sound as our Event Sponsors. Autograph, led by Andrew Bruce, have over 40 years of experience in providing sound for global brands including The Royal Opera House, The National Theatre and numerous West End shows. They provide specialist sound kit to our gigs, helping with amplification & sound reinforcement.

Ten Hats are our printing sponsors - and how incredibly important they are! Producing our fabulous posters, flyers and programmes (all designed by Richard Wolfstrome, below). It's brilliant to have them involved. They've supported us for a number of years now - so a massive thank you Dave Jones!

Richard Wolfstrome is the man behind our logo, our posters, our EP designs, and our branding.  Richard is a place-maker, a fellow of the RSA, an award-winning creative, an expert in his field, a music lover and a great friend of ours.  We love his work, and are massively appreciative of his support of us and Dosoco.
